Youth Leadership Academy  ( 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 )

Team Building lays the foundation for the Academy. Rules are defined, expectations, and goals are set, teams are built, and participants and staff learn how to work together. Participants receive training in basic computer skills such as learning key terms, keyboarding and file management. They learn how to log on to the World Wide Web, to open an e-mail account and begin correspondence. Participants are introduced to Life Skills topics through the use of an animated series featuring four central characters seen throughout the program’s modules. Instruction in Digital Audio software familiarizes participants with the computer as a multimedia tool, and they begin learning to create their own compositions. Participants are introduced to the world of work using a workplace simulation developed by Classroom Inc.

They learn to use the Web-based reference resource, Encarta, and to create documents with formatted text, lists, and pictures. Participants build on their digital audio skills by learning about music concepts and the techniques for making digital music. They continue work simulation episodes, and are introduced to PC Assembly skills by learning the physical components of a computer and safety tips to prevent injury.
