The Gwen Bolden Youth
Foundation Inc.
is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the positive
development of at-risk youth. Initially an after-school
tutorial program, our
programs have expanded to provide more holistic
approaches to developing at-risk youth by targeting the family
unit. The goal is to create an orderly, structured
environment crucial to their academic and social development.

Objectives:
Improve and enhance the
academic and social skills of community youth, ages 6-17 years.
Provide bilingual after-school
tutorial programs on school sites, utilizing parents, peers and
community residents as the primary volunteer base.
Provide parenting
skills, parenting education and support group counseling to
community residents.
Develop multi-ethnic peer
counseling sessions for teens.
Provide access to and qualified instruction in basic computer
literacy; introduction to the information Superhighways of the
future.
Implement and develop a
residential ranch and school on 10 acres of land owned by the foundation
in Pearblossom, CA.
Participant in the Weed
and Seed program whose aim is to increase neighborhood safety
and foster revitalization. We also publish a monthly newsletter.
Since its beginning in 1979, the
GBYF
has been successful both singularly and/or jointly with other
organizations in serving the youth, parents and families in the at-risk
communities of Los Angeles. With continued support from the many
dedicated individuals, organizations and donors that have crossed our
path, these services will continue to grow and provide these youth with
what we hope to be Pathways to New Beginnings.
